Rasmus Dahlin has slowly but surely grown into one of the NHL's most fearsome defenders thanks to his elite two-way play. The former 1st overall pick has definitely earned his draft spot and is about to earn himself a MASSIVE pay raise.
Dahlin About to Cash In
According to a new report from Chad DeDominicis, Dahlin and the Sabres have all but agreed to a contract extension. While the extension itself cannot be signed until July 1st, most of, if not all of the details have already been worked out between the two parties.
After some more conversations the last few days my understanding is this can be upgraded from «close» to «pretty much done.»
Nothing can be official until 7/1, of course, but 8 years, $80 million ($10 million cap hit) is what I'm expecting when all is said and done.
Wow! This is a massive pay raise for Dahlin and would make him one of the highest-paid players in the league.
Analytics Don't Lie
While many fans agree that Dahlin is among the best in the league at what he does, the advanced analytics community is also big fans of Dahlin and his play. Popular hockey statisticians, Andy & Rono posted their take on Dahlin's rumored new contract, and it's safe to say that they like the deal.
Dahlin's game both in his own end and in the offensive zone have grown leaps and bounds since he first entered the NHL, and he will be a staple on Buffalo's blueline for years to come. He is every bit deserving of this new contract!
