There was a time when Jack Campbell was being mentioned for the Vezina Trophy and earlier this season it seemed possible. Unfortunately the Leafs' goaltending hit a wall as both Campbell and Petr Mrazek began to struggle. Tonight though the Leafs received stellar goaltending from Erik Kallgren, who made his first career start.
Kallgren put up a 35 save shutout and looked strong while doing it. But in his post game comments, Sheldon Keefe didn't let his other goalies off the hook.
I thought he was great. Picked up where he left offThought our team played great in front of him
It gave the guys confidence, the way he (Källgren) played.
It was after Keefe praised his rookie goalie that he took his shot at his current netminders.
It becomes tough to play when you're fishing the puck out of your own net.
Clearly Keefe is at the point where absolving his goalies of fault is off the table, especially when this graphic shows just how bad the goalies have been.
