The trade market around the NHL is slowly starting to heat up as teams look to make moves a bit sooner than normal. One player who could find himself on the move is Coyotes defenseman Matt Dumba.
Multiple Teams Calling Coyotes About Dumba's Availability
According to Eklund of Hockeybuzz, an NHL rumors site, multiple teams are interested in the 29-year-old blueliner.
"He (Dumba) is however going to be a very hot commodity come te deadlineI am already hearing New Jersey, Edmonton, the NY Rangers,. Tampa, as well as Buffalo. Dumba brings some serious grit and leadership to any team and you could just see him finding another level and finally getting to make a playoff impact."
Dumba signed a one-year, 3.9 million dollar contract with the Coyotes last summer. Many believed the deal was set up so that the team could trade him at he deadline for more future assets.
Dumba's Trade Value Unknown
How much the veteran blueliner could bring back in a trade remains to be seen. Dumba has never really been an offensive defenseman outside of a career year back in 2017-18. This season he has 4 points in 23 games, including two goals.
The Coyotes currently hold the first wild card spot in the western conference and with the way they've been playing as of late, they very well could make the playoffs this year. It is hard to say if the team would be willing to risk their playoff chances by moving Dumba, but at the same time, moving one player can only have so much of an impact on the team. Sean Durzi has been running the top powerplay unit for the team anyways.
