When last season ended, we all thought it would finally be the end of Big Z. The 6'09 250lb, 45-year-old defenceman has been in the league since 1997 when he broke into the league with the New York Islanders.
Won the Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins as captain in 2011 and has made his mark in the NHL as one of the best leaders of all time.
Big Z has played on 4 different teams over his career, them being: New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals.
After 1680 regular season games and 200 playoff games, we thought it was finally the end, but we might just be seeing the big rig make one more go-round!
According to Arthur Staple, the New York Rangers are looking for a veteran defenceman for next season to help out with all the young guns on the back end. They are looking for someone to come in on a Professional Tryout (PTO). There are a few potential veteran defenceman left in free agency, but if they are looking for someone with experience, Chara fits the bill perfectly.
#NYR likely still in the market for a veteran D-man to join on a tryout. Had interest in Nathan Beaulieu, who agreed to a PTO with the Ducks on Friday. Not many options left: Thomas Hickey, Michael Stone, maybe even Zdeno Chara among those still out there.
