Wayne Simmonds isn't the player he once was when he was putting up 30+ goals and 60+ points, but he still does provide a team with a great net front presence, veteran leadership and a lot of grit.

On June 29, 2021 Simmonds signed a two year deal with the Maple Leafs with an AAV of $900,000, but it came with a modified no trade clause. This season is the final year of Simmonds deal and the Maple Leafs chose to put him on waivers. Simmonds though didn't report to the Marlies, but is still with the team as the Maple Leafs told him they would facilitate a trade that would work for him.
It's been a few weeks since this request was made known and Dubas even emailed the entire league letting them know that he was available, but there has yet to be any takers.
One NHL Insider though, Nick Kypreos, believes that a division rival and province rival might be interested in the power forward:

Simmonds would be a good fit for the Senators, he provides a gritty presence that is lacking in their bottom 6.
The Senators made some big strides this offseason in trying to turn their team into a playoff contender, and while Simmonds will most likely want to go to a cup calibre team, the Senators would atleast be a good start so he could actually get some playing time in the NHL.
