REPORT: John Tortorella BENCHES his 2 best players - Gives the usual Torts response
Something none of us saw coming was the Philadelphia Flyers being second in the Metropolitan to start this season after how bad of a year they had last season.
The team didn't think a rebuild was required this offseason and instead brought in John Tortorella to take over the team, and well, it looks like the management staff may have been right.
Until last night when they were shutout by the San Jose Sharks. They lost 3-0 but that wasn't the only story during the game. During this game, Tortorella benched two of his best players for an entire period.
For the entire third period Kevin Hayes and Travis Konecny rode the pine, and when Tortorella was asked why he did this, he gave one of his typical responses:
I'm just going to keep that in the room
Flyers coach John Tortorella on benching Travis Konecny and Kevin Hayes in 3rd period: "I'm just going to keep that in the room."— Adam Kimelman (@NHLAdamK) October 24, 2022
Coming into this season, Tortorella was talking about how high his expectations for Kevin Hayes were, he believed he is capable of much more than what he has shown thus far in the league.
Now 6 games into the season Torts is already trying to send a message to his team that even if they're losing and need goals, they will still bench two of their best scorers.
