Back in 2018 the New York Rangers traded away Ryan McDonagh and J.T. Miller to the Tampa Bay Lightning which gave them Vladislav Namestnikov, Brett Howden, Libor Hajek, conditional round 2 pick in the 2019 draft and the 28th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Entry draft.
The Rangers have one of the best defence cores in the league and they are young as well. On the right side they have Adam Fox, Jacob Trouba and Braden Schneider. So for a young defenceman to get a chance on this team, especially on the right side is going to be very difficult, with all of these players likely not going anywhere anytime soon.
That is where the 28th overall pick in the 2018 draft, Nils Lundkvist is at right now. Feeling like he doesn't have spot and isn't being given much of a chance to play, it seems like Lundkvist's time in New York might be done.
"The Rangers are engaged in an accelerated effort to trade Nils Lundkvist after being notified that the 22-year-old Swedish defenseman is unlikely to report to camp in the absence of a deal, The Post has been told by multiple sources."
"Lundkvist, the club's third, first-round selection in the 2018 draft at 28th overall, turned in a lukewarm performance for the Blueshirts in his first North American season before being sent to the AHL Wolf Pack in mid-January after being leapfrogged by 20-year-old Braden Schneider on the right defense depth chart."- Larry Brooks, New York Post
