Yesterday was the final day that teams could put players on waivers to be cap compliant by 5pm today for the start of the NHL season tomorrow.

We saw some pretty big names hit the waiver wire and some of these names have been around the NHL for a long time.
Two of the biggest names to hit the wire was Wayne Simmonds from the Toronto Maple Leafs, who had one year left on a two-year contract that paid $900k and had a modified no-trade-clause:

We also saw Boston Bruins Nick Foligno, who was also on the final year of a two-year deal with an AAV of $3,800,000:

Both of these players believe they have a lot still to offer in the NHL in points, leadership and grit.
It sounds like one team believes them too as the rumour is they will be claiming these two veterans.
The Philadelphia Flyers were a disappointment last season and this led to hiring John Tortorella to come in and fix things. We all know that Torts values a hard working player, and these two guys are the type he loves to play. Foligno knows Tortorella very well from his time in Columbus.
