Kyle Dubas is going into his fifth season as the General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and while he has formed a great fantasy team that has been great during the regular season, he has yet to win a playoff series during his time.
The Maple Leafs had the best season in their franchise history last year, racking up 115 points, which is 10 points more than the previous team high, but again, like every season before it, they lost in the first round after having two chances to eliminate the Tampa Bay Lightning.
This is the final year of Dubas' contract and if he wants a renewal from Shanahan, it looks like Dubas will need to show him some success:
Dubas says he was informed by Brendan Shanahan this summer that no extension was coming at this point in time. Which again, the Leafs GM insists he's ok with given the fact they haven't delivered yet in the playoffs. He's comfortable being judged after this season.
Another offseason just went by with them sticking to the ''core 4'' players that have yet to prove they can successfully win when it matters most, and to make matters worse, Dubas is now betting his future on two goalies that were castoffs from other teams.
