Giroux and the Panthers would finish first overall winning the Presidents Trophy. But when it came to the playoffs the Panthers fell apart, struggling to get by the Washington Capitals and failing miserably against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The major piece of the trade going to the Flyers as part of the Giroux deal was Owen Tippet. The piece that was included from the Colorado Avalanche was Justin Barron plus more. So it will be interesting to see whether the Flyers won this deal or not, but one thing we do know is, Giroux lost.
Claude Giroux choosing Florida over Colorado is an all time bad decision that everyone knew. While the Panthers have superstars like Barkov and Huberdeau, Giroux had a chance to play with Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, Gabriel Landeskog, Mikko Rantanen, no team in the league in my opinion matches up with the depth of the Colorado Avalanche.
