First, captain Patrice Bergeron has been rumoured to either be considering retirement or signing with a team closer to home in the offseason. But he shut down those rumours of signing elsewhere, saying if he plays anywhere it's going to be for the Boston Bruins. Unfortunately for Bruins fans though, retirement still looks to be the way he is is leaning currently.
If Bergeron does not return, that is a huge blow for the Bruins as they are very weak in depth at center, and you will not be able to find a center to the calibre of Bergeron at the price he was at.
But also a huge question has been Brad Marchand. Marchand is having surgery this offseason:
On potential surgery for Brad Marchand: "March is going to have an evaluation hip wise. March was probably the one that was a little more surprising of having some adductor issues in the last couple of years...he's doing more exploratory stuff now to confirm that." Boston Bruins (@NHLBruins) May 18, 2022
After this surgery, who knows what the recovery time will be and what Marchand's status will be for next season, so there is much unknown for the Bruins at the moment for the 2022-23 season.
Ian McLaren of the Locked on Bruins podcast tweeted recently that the Bruins should trade Marchand this offseason:
Which Marchand responded to a few days later:
Tough take Brad Marchand (@Bmarch63) May 22, 2022
Judging by this response, it looks like Marchand wants to be a Bruin, so good news Bruins fans!
