Over the years we have seen our fair share of top NHL prospects get drafted early and not develop into star players like they were projected to be, and this is one of those stories.
After dominating the OHL, the New York Islanders used their 5th overall pick back in 2014 to draft Michael Dal Colle.
Over the next few seasons, Dal Colle bounced between the AHL and NHL, mostly playing with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the AHL. He managed to get into 112 NHL games over his young career and scored 21 points.
The Islanders chose not to re-sign Dal Colle after last season, so the Ottawa Senators decided to bring him to camp on a PTO.
The 26-year-old apparently did not impress at the Senators camp either, as it was announced last night that the Senators released Dal Colle from his PTO.
The young man has shown he has the skill, but he just cannot seem to translate it into the NHL.
