Oilers Place Fan Favorite On Waivers Causing Major Outrage
All NHL rosters are on the verge of being set. Today was the last day to place players on waivers before rosters needed to be set. This led to some incredibly difficult decisions for several NHL teams.
Oilers Place Fan Favorite On Waivers
The Edmonton Oilers made their final few roster moves to get themselves ready for the NHL season. This included having to waive 3 players one of which is a massive fan favorite.
Other waivers: Brown, Greer (BOS); Coghlan (CAR); Anderson (CHI); Tufte (COL), Damiani (DAL); newy signed Zach Aston-Reese (DET); Gleason, Pederson (EDM), Dalpe, Fitzgerald (FLA)...
Others include: Lavoie (EDM); Anderson-Dolan (LA); Armia (MON); newly-signed Colin White (PIT); Bogosian (TB)
All 3 players placed on waivers today were in contention for a roster spot up until the end. All of them are also young and potentially promising pieces. This is particularly true for former second-round pick Raphael Lavoie. Since the names have been announced Oilers fans have shown their outrage for the move.
Oilers Fans Outraged By Today's Waiver Wire
After the waiver announcement was made Oilers fans and media did not waste any time sharing their outrage for the moves. The rage was mostly aimed at the Oilers for not making sure that Raphael Lavoie would be on the opening night roster.
This is major gamble by Edm putting Lavoie on waivers. Montreal or team like SJ could claim him. They obviously felt he wasn't suited to fourth line with no PK or PP time and Erne when signed can be fourth liner
With these moves, the Oilers will now be at the mercy of the other 31 NHL teams. If the players are not claimed they can be sent to the AHL.
If they are claimed the Oilers lose some big assets that they invested significant time and capital into for nothing. If the Oilers lose any of these players for nothing, particularly Lavoie general manager Ken Holland will need to answer all the questions that are sure to come.
