NHL Exposed For Continuing To Sell WJC Scandal Merchandise
While most of the NHL All-Star Weekend was a major success for the league there has been one event that has caused a stir. The NHL let a decision slip through the cracks that ended up resulting in a fan purchasing Carter Hart merchandise.
Hart Placed On Indefinite Leave By The Philadelphia Flyers
Over the last couple of weeks, Carter Hart's name has been in the news a ton. This is because he is one of the five players who has been charged in the 2018 Canadian World Junior scandal.
As a result of these players being charged the NHL removed any opportunities to purchase merchandise with any of these players' names. This was what we all thought until an incident that took place at the NHL All-Star Game.
NHL Exposed For Continuing To Sell Hart Merchandise
During All-Star Weekend the NHL partners with each team to give fans an opportunity to take home memorabilia. One of the ways the NHL did that this year as through a series of signed pucks from over 100 different NHL players. One of the players listed is Carter Hart.
The pucks could be bought and the fan would get a random player's signature on their new souvenir. One fan bought one of these pucks and asked if a Hart puck could be refunded. The staff told him no and then to his surprise he opened his signed puck and indeed did see Carter Hart's name.
The fan would eventually speak to a manager at the arena and get the whole thing cleared up. He would eventually be allowed to trade the Hart puck in for another option.
"me and my friend were at the NHL ASG fan fair and he bought a mystery puck for $60, the list of possible players had like 100 and carter hart was one of them, so we jokingly asked the guy working there if we'd get a refund if it was carter hart and he said no. so we bought it and opened it later on and it ended up being hart, went back to show the guy his manager let us exchange it and got quinn hughes in the next one lol"
The fan now gets to go home with a Quinn Hughes puck instead and was much happier. This still adds to the mess that the NHL has gotten itself into due to the actions of these players. As the months go by if things like this continue to happen the NHL will have a PR nightmare on their hands.
