Connor McDavid has been an Edmonton Oilers for 7 years now. He's only ever seen the second round of the playoffs in his sophomore season. The Oilers have also gone on to miss the playoffs 3 times during McDavid's time.
It was rumoured back in 2019 that McDavid, his agent and Ken Holland sat down and discussed McDavid's expectations.
The implication was that McDavid, his agent, and Ken Holland sat down where Ken Holland mapped out his plan for the Oilers to be competitive or showing progress by year 2 and if that's not the case McDavid would consider asking for a trade.
Well the clock is ticking and yesterday on Oilers Now Elliotte Friedman addressed those previous rumours.
"I'm not putting any words in (McDavid's) mouth. I'm not jumping to conclusions. I'm just saying that I don't understand why this is a big news flash. If the Oilers miss the playoffs this year it's a really bad thing for the franchise."
We saw last season that an exceptional talent like
Jack Eichel could request a trade, could we see the same thing again?
With Ken Holland sharing he's not interested in moving any of his top prospects or his 1st round pick for help it truly seems that the Oilers could be destined for trouble if the current team can't right the ship.
