We are just over a week away from the start of free agency, and we are only two days away from the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, and this year there is a lot of speculation regarding trades.

One of the busiest teams this offseason will be the Edmonton Oilers, who already have some depth problems in the organization, but to make matters worse, they currently don't have a single NHL calibre goaltender after Mikko Koskinen signed in another league and Mike Smith stated he was going on Long-term Injured Reserve for next season.
They currently have 3 big names RFA's who need to be signed in; Kailer Yamamoto, Ryan McLeod & Jesse Puljujärvi. All of these players will be looking for raises on their currently finished contracts and UFA Evander Kane is also looking for a big payday after fitting in so well with the Oilers on a ''show-me'' deal last season.
Elliotte Friedman current stated on his 32 Thoughts podcast earlier today that:
I think Edmonton's got a lot going on. Puljujarvi's name has been out there... Kassian's name has been out there, everybody's heard it. Foegle, Barrie al these names have been out there. I'd be curious if a team like Montreal would have interest in Barrie. I heard it today also, about the possibility of Giroux in Edmonton. I do think that's been discussed and I do think that's possible. They're interested in Campbell and I think they're interested in Giroux.

Would Jack Campbell fixed their issues in net? He definitely wasn't the answer in Toronto. While every team would also love to have Claude Giroux in their lineup, scoring in the top 6 has never been a problem for the Oilers, it's the bottom 6 they've needed to improve to provide some depth scoring. Giroux is not a bottom 6 player, so the addition of Giroux I personally don't believe would help the Oilers in their long term goal.
If the Oilers truly want to be a cup contender, they need to invest some money in the goaltending position and the bottom 6. They've been a top heavy team for too long and obviously it doesn't work when they run into a team like the Colorado Avalanche.
