Kris Letang has been a star for the Pittsburgh Penguins since he arrived on the team full time during the 2007-08 season.
Since being drafted 62nd overall in the 2005 draft, Letang has played in 925, scoring 635 points, won 3 stanley cups and recorded 86 points in 142 playoff games.
Letang at the age of 34 is coming to the end of a deal that pays him $7,250,000 for 8 years, and the rumour is his next deal he expects to start with a 7 as well. Despite being able to resign for some time now, both Letang and other Penguins star Evgeni Malkin are both still pending UFA's.
Letang was born in Montreal and has always said he would like to play in his home town, and it just so happens that his former agent is now the General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens.
This is a rough quote translated from French to English from Mathias Brunet
I would be surprised if Kristopher Letang doesn't play with the Canadiens next year. He hasn't signed with Pittsburgh yet, he could have. I think he's coming to Montreal. It's a personal feeling. Letang said, "If I don't sign in Pittsburgh you know where I'm coming from." Do they have a good enough relationship [with Kent Hughes] to say, we sign you two years and don't worry if you're still good in two years we will sign you back?
-Mathias Brunet What do you think, should the Montreal Canadiens sign this soon-to-be UFA?
