Gary Bettman Makes a Mockery of Connor McDavid With New Marketing
With only one game tonight, Gary Bettman continues to prove to everybody that he does not want to grow the game.
Bettman Refuses To Market McDavid
Tonight, there is only one NHL game. That game is Edmonton vs Vegas and it begins at 10 pm EST. While this statement does not sound out of the ordinary, there is a huge problem with it.
This problem is that Gary Bettman is refusing to put the face of the league, Connor McDavid, in front of a larger viewership. While the game will be on ESPN, it will have less viewership than it could have if the game started at 7 pm EST/4 pm WST.
It is not a huge ask to have the game start three hours earlier because it is a weekend and afternoon games are very common on weekends.
This is more evidence that despite Bettman saying that he wants to grow the game, he does not want to do the smallest thing to grow the game. There could be a kid watching ESPN tonight that falls in love with hockey and is the next face of the league but because Bettman does not want to grow the game, that kid may never fall in love with hockey.
