Despite having a disappointing season in Montreal, the future is very bright.
After winning the NHL 2022 draft lottery, the Montreal Canadiens have the first overall pick in the upcoming draft.
Although Shane Wright is believed to be hands down the best player in the draft, their is speculation the Canadiens may not pick Wright and instead choose American born Logan Cooley or Slovakia born Juraj Slafkovsky instead.
Former NHL Scout Grant McCagg has given his opinion on this and believes that that Jaraj Slafkovsky would be the Canadiens best choice, feeling he would fit in perfect on a line with Suzuki and Caufield and the would be deadly together.
"I think he Slafkovsky can play on the first line in Montreal next year and help the team in many ways. Caufield and Suzuki tried a number of wingers last year and no player is capable of bringing the same thing as Slafkovsky. No, it's not too early, the kid is ready."
Picking Slafkovsky would mean losing Wright. Should the Montreal Canadiens make this selection with the first overall pick, or trade down to get Slafkovsky? Or just use the first overall pick and take Shane Wright?
