Evgeni Malkin ties Sergei Fedorov last night for NHL Record
Since being drafted 2nd overall in 2004 and entering the league in 2006, Evgeni Malkin has been an absolute beast. Over his career he has averaged 1.17 points per game, which is second to only teammate Sidney Crosby of players to have played over 500 games in the span of Malkin's career.
Since his draft year he also ranks 4th in points with 1136, trailing only:
Ovechkin: 1398
Crosby: 1394
Kane: 1166
Ovechkin: 1398
Crosby: 1394
Kane: 1166
But due to injury it has been rare to see Malkin play in a full NHL season, only playing in 970 career games.
Last night in an 11-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings, Malkin recorded 4 points (3G, 1A) which tied him with Sergei Federov for the most assists recorded by a Russian born NHL player with 696.
It took Sergei Federov 1248 games to reach 696 while it impressively only took Malkin 970 games.
Congratulations Malkin!

Personal note: While Malkin has always been dominant, when he is "on" I have always considered him the most dominant player in the league. The times where Pittsburgh is missing Sidney Crosby due to injury, we've never seen a player step it up like Malkin does.
