Coyotes Top Prospect Screws the Team With a Major Decision
The Coyotes' top prospect, Logan Cooley, has screwed the organization by making a very questionable decision.
Logan Cooley is undoubtedly the best (drafted) prospect in hockey right now. The 2022 3rd Overall pick had a fantastic season of development and right now is the best prospect with their rights owned by an organization.
However, Cooley may not like the organization that drafted him.
This move is questionable because Cooley could undoubtedly be in the NHL next season with the Arizona Coyotes but because of the Coyotes' uncertainty, it appears that Cooley is making the best decision for himself.
Could Cooley refuse to sign with the Coyotes?
This is an absolutely real possibility. If Cooley were to play out his college career at Minnesota, he could walk as a free agent and play anywhere he wanted which other top NCAA prospects have done in the past such as
Jimmy Vesey and
Adam Fox.
While it is unprecedented to have a top 3 pick to do this, it is not out of the realm of possibility because the Coyotes' situation is so unique. Cooley's college rink can seat over double the amount possible with the Coyotes' current rink and this is quite concerning for all parties involved.
If Arizona continues to remain uncertain, we could see a world where Cooley leaves them for nothing.
