Saturday night in Ottawa we saw another incident when a stretcher was required in an NHL game, this time for Connor Murphy. In the first 3-minutes of the Sens versus Hawks' game, Parker Kelly hit Connor Murphy with a check from behind that sent Murphy into the boards, before he fell to the ice and was unresponsive. Murphy laid motionless on the ice for a few minutes before finally coming to.

Everyone was clearly worried about Murphy as he was taken from the ice. Luckily it appears he avoided significant injury as he was never transported to local hospital and he flew home with the team immediately after the team's victory.

Teammate Jake McCabe shared the following:

We've seen too many stretchers this year, it's a scary thing.

This is the second instance when a stretcher was used for a teammate this year as earlier this season Jujhar Khairawas hit by Jacob Trouba and knocked unconscious.

Head coach Derek King shared some comments from Connor Muprhy, who is still not cleared to do media availability about the incident.

Derek King: I didn't want to say, like, 'Hey, how was it, did you see the light at the end of the tunnel? How is it?' It wasn't nothing like that. It was just, How did you feel?'

Connor Murphy: I don't remember some things.'

Derek King: That happens. We've all been conked on the head, we've all been run over. It happens in the game. It's unfortunate that it happened to him and he'll recover. We just have to make sure when he's ready to come back, he's 100 percent and no harm.

It appears as though Murphy suffered a concussion during this instance, but otherwise he has avoided serious injury otherwise.
