Each of the last three seasons, the Colorado Avalanche have been one of the favourites to win the Stanley cup, only to get bounced early.
This season they are hoping to be different as they are once again elite in the regular season and hope it continues into the playoffs.
Mackinnon is on the final years of his team friendly contract, and with Burakovsky and most notably Kadri (who is having a career year), UFA's at the end of this season, the time is NOW for the Avalanche to take a run at the cup.
Two players who they are looking at as rentals are: Flyers center Claude Giroux & Blackhawks goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, who both will add tremendous value in not only leadership, but Giroux will add some scoring depth to the middle 6 and Fleury not only brings his Vezina winning talent, but his 3 stanley cup rings/experience.
