Brad Marchand assumed new responsibilities this year as he took on the Bruins' captaincy upon Patrice Bergeron's retirement. Unfortunately, though his family was struck with a tragedy last week.
Marchand's Grandmother Passes Away
It was reported yesterday that Brad Marchand's grandmother had passed away last Friday.
Marchand Elevates His Game With Key Goals Against Leafs And Blue Jackets
However, the news did not seem to impact Marchand's performance on the ice. In fact, he put up back-to-back key performances as he lifted his team to victory against the Leafs with a clutch overtime goal.
He followed that up with a hat trick against the Blue Jackets, helping his team secure another victory in a big way.
The performances brought Marchand's season scoring total to just under a point per game with 23 points in 24 games. The Bruins look to be Stanley Cup contenders once again as they continue their streak of strong play. While the team is unlikely to reach last year's lofty regular season totals, a longer playoff run is certainly not out of the question.
