The Boston Bruins have just announced the tragic passing of one of their former goaltenders, who recently passed away at just 53 years old.
Lacher Passes Away at Age 53
It's always a sad day when someone in the hockey world passes away, and Friday was no different. The Boston Bruins took to social media to announce that former goaltender Blaine Lacher had passed away at the young age of 53 years old.
"The Boston Bruins are deeply saddened by the passing of former goalie Blaine Lacher. We send our thoughts and condolences to his family, friends, and teammates." The Bruins said in a statement.
Lacher had been a staple in the Bruins' net during 47 games with the club, recording 22 wins, 16 losses and four ties, along with a 2.80 goals against average, an .887 save percentage and four shutouts.
Lake Superior State University Mourns Loss of Lacher
Lacher's alma mater Lake Superior State University (LSSU) also released a statement grieving the passing of Lacher. He attended LSSU and led them to a National Championship in 1994.
"Lake Superior State University (LSSU) mourns the loss of hockey alum and NCAA national champion goaltender Blaine Lacher who passed away earlier this week at the age of 53.
Lacher was a member of LSSU's 1994 national championship team, and he was named to the 1994 NCAA All-Tournament Team. During the 1993-94 season, Lacher set the NCAA shutout streak record with 375 minutes and one second without allowing a goal, a record that still stands to this day." Lake Superior State said.
We are sending our thoughts to the family and loved ones of Lacher during this difficult time.
