It's been a season full of drama for the Vancouver Canucks. After starting the season with one of the worst records in recent years, which led to a lot of speculations regarding a rebuild and firing of Bruce Boudreau, they've rebounded slightly recently and are now only 3 points out of a playoff spot.
Sadly though, it looks like they will very shortly have a drastically different looking team.
It started with young sniper Brock Boeser requesting a trade after the team tried to make him a healthy scratch for the 'Hockey Fights Cancer' game. Now the Canucks will apparently be moving on from their captain as well.
Bo Horvat is having a career year, having scored 20 goals and 29 points in 28 games.
He is on the final year of a contract that carries a $5,500,000 cap hit and the Canucks captain was looking for a significant raise. It was already reported that the Canucks offered him an 8 year deal with a lower cap hit than what he currently makes, which was a slap to the face.
Now being reported by Puck Empire on Instagram, who is reporting from NHL Insider Rick Dhaliwal, the Canucks have apparently made their final offer for a contract extension, which he declined.
It is believed that the offer came in at less than $8M AAV/$64M total.
Horvat, 27, has 20 goals & 29 points through 28 games played this season.
Per Frank Seravalli, there is at least one team in the NHL that is willing to give him $9M AAV in free agency.
