BREAKING: The NHL Set To Have Its First Female Official In The Coming Months
In breaking news, the NHL has hinted that it will have its first-ever female official work a game in the coming months.
NHL Makes Changes To Scoresheet That Hints at Female Official Getting Ready to Work Game
For the majority of history, the NHL has referred to its officials as referees and linesmen, as it has always been men who have been hired to work those positions. Now, however, it appears that the NHL is making some changes with regards to how they refer to linesmen, changing it to linesperson.
Perhaps the change was made in order to accommodate for a female being brought up to work an NHL game for the first time. That's exactly what NHL insider Marc Spector believes.
So, here's something new on the NHL game sheets these days.
Linespersons.
Does this portend that Kirsten Welsh, a promising AHL "linesperson" is soon to break the barrier as an NHL official?
Stay tuned...
This would be a massive step forward for the NHL, as Welsh is more than capable of working an NHL game and is deserving of the promotion. We will see if this change is actually reflective of the NHL making some progressive moves, or if it is just signalling.
