Auston Matthews wants to be the highest paid player in NHL history
When Nathan MacKinnon became the highest player in NHL History it was only a matter of time before Auston Matthews would attempt to pass that number. It was initially believed that Matthews would look to simply pass MacKinnon by a small margin, but now it seems he wants to leave MacKinnon in the dust.
According to Nick Kypreos Matthews and his agent are seeking $15,000,000 per year.Auston Matthews is looking for an 8 year, $15M AAV extension on his next contract. Per, Nick Kypreos.
Kypreos says the Leafs won't simply "hand it over" to Matthews, and contract negotiations will last a while. Kypreos also mentioned the longer the two sides go without an extension, the trade talks surrounding William Nylander will get stronger.
