16-year NHL veteran Valtteri Filppula signs to continue his career at age 40
This afternoon a new report has come out confirming that longtime NHL veteran Valtteri Filppula has signed a new contract to continue his career at age 40.
Valtteri Filppula was known in the NHL for being an incredibly reliable player who was versatile and could play up and down the lineup. These traits have now allowed him to continue playing at the age of 40 as he has signed in his home country of Finland with Jokerit.
During his time in the NHL, Valtteri Filppula played mostly for the Tampa Bay Lightning and Detroit Red Wings with short stints with the New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers. At his peak, Valtteri Filppula tallied 58 points with the Tampa Bay Lightning and was a great defensive presence.
After his time playing in the NHL Valtteri Filppula spent the last 3 seasons in Switzerland with Geneve-Servette of the National League. Now he will return home and spend likely one of if not his final season back with the team he played for growing up Jokerit.
We wish Valtteri Filppula all the best as he heads on a new adventure in a familiar place for the 2024-25 season.
