The run of Teemu Selanne in Winnipeg is one of the best we've ever seen in the NHL, but it wasn't all great for the iconic Finnish star. During his latest appearance on the Spittin' Chiclets Podcast, Selanne would detail a ridiculous story involving former Jets GM Mike Smith, who wanted to give the goal-scoring machine a little extra motivation.
According to Selanne, despite having 47 goals on the season, Smith wanted to give him a little extra motivation after not scoring for two games in a row, as he threatened him with being demoted to Moncton, the Jets farm team at the time. That wasn't all, however, as he then revealed that Smith, now 79 years of age approached Selanne's now wife in public, asking her if she knew where Moncton was, making the same threat.
As history goes, he would then go on to tally seven goals in his next few appearances en route to yet another incredible campaign at the NHL level, and while it wasn't Smith's motivation that made it happen, Selanne believes the veteran GM would have given himself credit.
