Earlier today, the NHLPA confirmed that Evgeny Kuznetsov was eligible to return to practice from the Player Assistance Program, and now, the Capitals have shocked the NHL world.
Kuznetsov officially placed on waivers by the Washington Capitals
After a down year to start 2023-24 following a less than stellar campaign a year ago, it appears the Capitals are done with their former star forward, officially placing him on waivers today.
Placed on NHL waivers today: Event Kuznetsov (WSH).
The 33-year old has tallied 6 goals and 17 points in 43 games played thus far in 2023-24, but with the team looking to move in a new, younger direction, this move was always a possibility.
With a cap hit of $7.8 million over the final two years of his contract, it's highly unlikely that he'll be claimed, but at this point, it's becoming clear that his relationship with the Capitals is coming to an end.
