Recently the Washington Capitals season ended in a 4-0 sweep at the hands of the New York Rangers in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. After their elimination, Alex Ovechkin spoke to the media and confirmed he feared he would be traded earlier in the season.

This season was one of many ups and downs for the Washington Capitals and Alex Ovechkin. The beginning of the season got off to a terrible start the team wasn't winning and Alex Ovechkin was not scoring.

As the trade deadline approached the Capitals needed to decide if they were buyers or sellers. Alex Ovechkin says he feared he would be traded away as the team sold off players.

Ovechkin on if he was worried about having just 8 goals before the All-Star Break:

«Yeah, I was worried I would get traded, but thanks god I'm still here. No, to be honest with you, it was tough with the whole situation."

The trade ultimately did not happen and Alex Ovechkin stayed with the Capitals. As the season went on he and the team began to heat up and were able to sneak into the playoffs. Despite his late-season success, Alex Ovechkin cooled back off in the playoffs being held off the scoresheet.

Round 1 vs. the Rangers was the worst playoff series of Alex Ovechkin's historic career.

Alex Ovechkin now sits just 41 goals from Wayne Gretzky's all-time record. He will once again likely be back with the Washington Capitals and if he can get off to a better start next season we could potentially see him break the record next season.
