NHL Insider Gives Update On Brock Boeser in Vancouver: Teams Aren't Close To An Extension

The Vancouver Canucks find themselves sitting in a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference right now, but with that spot looking anything but solidified, they've got some major decisions to make moving forward.

One of those surrounds home grown star Brock Boeser, who put together a career year in 2023/24, but with the trade deadline approaching, the team are considering moving him, rather than extending the pending UFA.

Now, Insider Cam Robinson has given an update on the situation, and according to Robinson, the two sides appear to be far apart on what the future holds for them, with his future in Vancouver up in the air.

Then, Robinson notes that teams continue to call on Boeser, and as he's likely just to be a rental, the price won't be as high as it was for Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller, although Boeser could be a major boost for a contending team ahead of the deadline.

However, the team are also considering keeping Boeser with the knowledge that he's going to walk in free agency, with Robinson noting that they would be in essence using him as a rental of their own as they look to make a surprise Stanley Cup run this season.

Ultimately though, it's unclear what the difference of opinion is between Boeser and the organization, as he would be a vital part of the team moving forward if they were to hand him an extension, so while things could certainly change ahead of the March 7th deadline, as of right now, it appears as though all signs are pointing to no long-term deal taking place.
