The Vancouver Canucks seemingly have a feud between J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson on their hands, and now a former teammate has addressed it.
As the calendar turns to 2025, many were shocked to see the Vancouver Canucks out of a Stanley Cup Playoffs spot, but given their injury issues this season, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise.
On top of that, a rivalry in the locker room between Elias Petterson and J.T. Miller has defined this team, and given recent reports, it could end up in Vancouver trading one or the other player.
Now, former Canucks teammate Brad Richardson has lifted the lid on the entire situation, noting that he often told Miller that he was too hard on Pettersson, and ultimately it would end up in the two having issues as EP40 developed and grew older.
I love J.T., love him. Guy's an animal. But I even told him, I said "hey, you're too hard on this kid, you're too hard on him. I know you're saying exactly what I think, but he's the type of guy that doesn't take when you're on him, he's going to shut down."
I told him I said "hey, you're going to lose this guy if you keep doing it". But hey, there's a lot of tension, and somethings gonna give, I guarantee it.
Richardson hasn't been in the locker room with the two since the 2021/22 campaign, so things certainly could have changed since that point, but given that Miller was on Pettersson even back then with others warning him about it, it appears that things just keep getting worse.
In locker rooms, Miller is certainly beloved by his teammates for the way he is as a leader, but simply put, some players don't like the way he leads, and that is apparently what has happened here.
While Pettersson has called out the media for fabricating this story, all of these reports from Richardson and former coach Bruce Boudreau can't be 100% fabricated, so while they may be smoothing things over, this has been happening for quite some time, and eventually, the hand of the front office may be forced into a trade.
