Indeed, the owner of the Utah HC and Utah Jazz, Ryan Smith, signed a massive $900M deal with the city to renovate their arena and build a three-block sports and entertainment district.
However, the team will face big fines from the city if they fail to respect some of the conditions attached to the agreement.
For the next 30 years, the Utah HC will need to play all their home games in Utah, meaning that if they want to play a game in Europe or even an outdoor game, they'll need to be the away team to avoid being fined.
The Sports Business Journal shared all the details in a recent paper:
In Utah, the city didn't mind spending some money on the team, whereas in Arizona, it seemed like Alex Meruelo and Gary Bettman were all alone, fighting to keep the Coyotes in a city that didn't even want them.
With all the hype in Salt Lake City, and all the new players in Utah, home games should be packed with happy fans who just want to cheer for their team as they embark on their first official NHL season.
