Last night during the 2024 NHL Draft the General Manager of the Utah Hockey Club Bill Armstrong might have accidentally leaked the team's new name.
Last night's NHL Draft was one of the most interesting that we have gotten in years. It was kicked off with Macklin Celebrini heading home to San Jose. Shortly after the Utah Hockey Club made their first selection in franchise history taking Tij Iginla son of former NHL Hall of Famer Jarome Iginla.
With our first-ever pick, the Utah Hockey Club selects Tij Iginla
After the busy night for the Utah Hockey Club General Manager Bill Armstrong addressed the media. During his remarks he accidentally leaked that the new team name is likely to be the Yeti.
That's when we knew he was gonna be a Utah Yeti I think. I'm not allowed to pick the name but I think the little kids in Utah vote about 25 times a day so I think they got it.
His answer was in reference to being excited knowing they would land Tij Iginla. While the name is not officially confirmed by the ownership group yet it is now expected to be the Yeti. From the beginning, the name Yeti became the favorite and fans should respond well to this news of a potential name.
As the 2024-25 NHL season gets closer it will be fun to see if the Utah Hockey Club releases their new team name before the season begins.
