Toronto Maple Leafs Sign Nick Robertson at Arbitration: His Salary Has More Than Doubled

After a busy start to the off-season, the Toronto Maple Leafs had one big piece of business to take care of, and that was working out a deal with talented young forward Nick Robertson.

On Friday, it was revealed that the two sides exchanged numbers ahead of their arbitration hearing, but on Saturday, the news came through that every Maple Leafs fan wanted to hear.

According to Elliotte Friedman, the two sides have come to an agreement that will pay Robertson $1.825 million per season on a new deal, avoiding arbitration, with Robertson being the final player in the NHL this summer that was going down that route.

On Friday, Robertson's number was at $2.25 million while the team were at $1.2, and while this eventual number favours the player, it's a good deal for both teams that will help them avoid any unnecessary drama this off-season.

Last year, Robertson posted 15 goals and 22 points in 69 games played, and while the 23-year old can still improve moving forward, he's shown flashes of being a very good NHL player, with the potential to be a middle-six forward in the NHL for a long time to come.

With this deal, the Maple Leafs show confidence in Robertson that he can take the next step forward in the coming years, and if he can't do it to their liking, this deal makes him very tradeable as the team look to push for a deep Stanley Cup run in the near future.
