Ryan Reaves makes negative comments on time with Maple Leafs, but 'holds no grudges'
Ryan Reaves was unceremoniously dumped by the Maple Leafs this past summer, and now, he's opened up on that split and why he holds no grudges.
For over 15 seasons, Ryan Reaves has been highly effective in the National Hockey League, and while he's never been a big point producer, in his role as an enforcer and an intimidator, it's safe to say that he's played his role perfectly.
The Toronto Maple Leafs were hoping he could do just that when they signed him to a free agency deal in the summer of 2023, but unfortunately, things didn't go quite as planned, especially last year when he was waived and sent down to the AHL's Toronto Marlies.
This summer, the team would then release him, as they needed to save money and clearly believed that in their current lineup, he simply didn't work for what they needed.
Reaves fires back at the Maple Leafs
Then, he would sign a deal with the San Jose Sharks, who are in Toronto for a massive tilt on Thursday night, and ahead of that matchup, Reaves addressed how he was dumped by the team, believing it could have been handled differently.
They basically said that I couldn't play in this league anymore. And I'm back.
Despite this, Reaves has no grudges, as he's filled his role in San Jose perfectly, even tallying 2 goals in 25 games as he's worked to protect the young core of Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini in San Jose.
Ultimately, Toronto weren't wrong to move on from Reaves, and he isn't wrong to be frustrated, as he's proven he can still be effective in his role in the NHL, and while he states that he has no grudges, Thursday's matchup may prove otherwise.
