This evening, former Arizona Coyotes reporter John Gambadoro has called out new Maple Leafs GM John Chayka for his actions during his time in Arizona.
In the 24 hours since the Toronto Maple Leafs hired John Chayka as their next General Manager the move has been met with mostly negative reactions.
Former players, media members, and fans alike have all bashed Chayka for his questionable methods as Coyotes GM and his lack of loyalty.
Now, John Gambadaro a sports radio host in Arizona has decided to torch Chayka himself and give behind the scenes details of his betrayal in Arizona involving franchise legend Shane Doan.
John Chayka reportedly betrayed multiple people during his short tenure in Arizona
According to a post put out on X by Gambadaro, Chayka was seen as a fraud.
Additionally Gambadaro claims Chayka stabbed both former Coyotes GM Don Maloney and Coyotes legend and captain Shane Doan in the back shortly after arriving as General Manager.
Chayka was a total fraud here. Cost the Coyotes first and second round picks for cheating. Quit on the team right before the bubble. Stabbed Don Maloney in the back to get the gig here. The way he treated Shane Doan was despicable - wanted him GONE - would not even consider letting him play one last year on the third line - was just jealous of him.
Doan had been working in the Maple Leafs front office in an advisory role but now with the hiring of Chayka will likely be looking for a new job and could end up in Buffalo where his son Josh Doan is a key player.
Additionally, Gambadaro has claimed that the only reason Chayka was hired in his new role as Maple Leafs GM is due to his relationship with Toronto legend Tie Domi.
Chayka is a fake. Only his connection to Ty Domi is getting him this job.
Chayka of course helped spark the career of Tie’s son Max Domi while with the Arizona Coyotes and will now re-unite with him as part of the Maple Leafs a decade later.
It remains to be seen whether or not Chayka has learned from his mistakes in Arizona but he clearly has a lot of people within the hockey industry that do not trust or respect him.
Now, it will be up to Chayka to repair his image while building a winning hockey team in one of the toughest markets in all of sports.
