Cedric Pare made himself enemy number one for plenty of fans this summer, and now it appears opposing players have put a target on his back too.
This off-season has been a very wild one in the NHL, and while pre-season doesn't usually result in much chaos, the same can't be said about the 2024 season. We saw incredible highlights, amazing goals but also some injuries, the most notable of which involved Patrik Laine, who will miss the rest of the calendar year after sustaining a knee injury.
The incident involving Cedric Pare saw him battered by Canadiens Arber Xhekaj, as the young forward stood up for his superstar teammate following the clash.
However, it doesn't appear that the heat on Pare has died down much, as his first AHL game of the season with the Toronto Marlies saw him dominated in similar fashion by Djibril Toure of the Belleville Senators.
After some pushing and shoving, both Toure and Pare dropped the gloves, but the Senators defenseman did so in much quicker fashion, allowing him to quickly dispatch of the now controversial Maple Leafs forward. With a few overhand rights to Pare, Toure ended the fight quickly by taking down the veteran forward in a move that will be satisfying to many Canadiens fans out there.
It's unclear yet whether or not Pare will be receiving this type of treatment all season long, but with some matchups against the Laval Rocket on the schedule, it's safe to say we will see just how much the heat has or hasn't died down.
