Given Matthews' impact on this team on a nightly basis, it's hard to argue that he's the driving force behind this teams success, and with a lack of talent on the blue line and in net, they'd certainly struggle to be the team they are without him.
Whether or not they'd be out of the playoffs is hard to say, but this type of criticism is part of the life of a Toronto Maple Leaf, so now they will need to focus in ahead of the playoffs and prove everyone wrong.
