Brad Treliving already closing in on Ilya Samsonov's replacement for next year
Ilya Samsonov struggled this past year with the Toronto Maple Leafs and now GM Brad Treliving has set his sights on a different goaltender: Laurent Brossoit.
When the Toronto Maple Leafs brought in Ilya Samsonov in 2022, there were high hopes that the former first-round draft pick could see a career resurgence. In his first year with the Leafs, he did just that posting a .919 sv% and 2.33 GAA while winning 27 games, all career highs.
However this past year he took a massive step back posting a statline of .890 sv% and 3.13 GAA, both career lows. Now GM Brad Treliving has moved forward and is already closing in on Samsonov's likely replacement for next year, Laurent Brossoit.
Mirtle says his understanding is there is mutual interest between the Leafs and Laurent Brossoit 👀
Brossoit's top priority at 31 will be to go to a good team where he can start frequently and he believes the Leafs fit the bill
His guess: a relatively short-term deal around $3M
Brossoit played well for the Winnipeg Jets this past season when called upon posting a 2.00 GAA and a .927 sv%. He will be looking for more minutes and more of an opportunity to win and that is what the Leafs can bring him. If Brossoit were to sign, it is anticipated he would share the crease with Joseph Woll.
