The Seattle Kraken recently made history with the first ever female coach in the NHL, and now one of the teams respected veterans weighs in on the move.
After years of hard work throughout the coaching ranks, the Seattle Kraken moved to make history this off-season when they hired Jessica Campbell as an assistant coach after she did brilliant work with the teams AHL affiliate the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Now, one of the most respected veterans on the team in Brandon Tanev has weighed in on the intriguing move;
"Yeah, that's such an amazing moment for her. She's been in Coachella for the last two years with Dan (Bylsma) and been part of his staff. Obviously, she deserves to be, where she is, and that's amazing growth for the game. We are all super excited to have her behind our bench and listen and learn from her. Have her knowledge that she brings to the game to us."
Unsurprisingly, Tanev is thrilled to work with her, as she comes with as good a reputation as any coach in North American hockey, and is expected to add a fantastic new perspective for the Kraken moving forward. Sure, there will always be doubters, but given how much weight Tanev's words carry in Seattle, this should settle down any of those doubters left, as Campbell was a star under Dan Bylsma in the AHL.
The Kraken as a team are looking to bounce back from a disappointing run in the 2023/24 NHL season, and with Campbell alongside some exciting new additions, this is a team ready to compete for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2024/25.
