Ryan Reaves Re-Ignites Longtime Evander Kane Rivalry With Fiery Comments: 'It's Real'
Ryan Reaves has been all over the media since his trade from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the San Jose Sharks, and has now taken aim at rival Evander Kane, newly of the Vancouver Canucks.
Reaves, 38, is in the final year of a three-year $4.05 million deal he signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2023. He was traded last week to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for depth defenseman Henry Thrun, and, for the first time in nearly five years, he will be in the same division as Evander Kane.
Kane, who has been in the Pacific division since 2017, going from the Sharks, to the Oilers, and now to the Vancouver Canucks via trade, is a longtime rival of Reaves', and will be playing him four times this season!
On the Cam and Strick Podcast Reaves made bold comments, re-igniting the rivalry with Kane:
"It's real... I don't think that's ever something that's going to change. I think it started early in our careers when, you know, he just always said he'd beat me up. But then we'd never fight unless there was a ref right there, and then he'd, you know, try and throw a punch. Then he was telling guys that he asked me to fight and I turned him down, and I was like, 'listen man, I don't think anybody's believing that when I've been chasing you around for six years and you won't fight me.'"
While this rivalry has been dormant for years, Evander Kane's comments after the one and only fight the two shared were far from complementary:
"He thinks it's the WWE. Probably going to end up there pretty soon.
For the so-called toughest guy in the league, I don't know if he landed a punch. At times, I thought I was fighting the Muffin Man. I didn't expect that. I expected more of a battle."

We will see if the two drop the gloves at some point this season; with both at the tail ends of their careers, they likely only have a few chances left.
