Macklin Celebrini starred at the Olympic Games for Canada, but now his teammates want him to know that unfortunately, they're not quite Connor McDavid.

For the first time in 12 years, the NHL returned to the Olympic Games in Milano Cortina, and capped off by a classic Gold Medal Game between the United States and Canada, it's safe to say that it was a major success.
Not only for the IIHF, IOC and the NHL, but for the players as well, and for the younger names on these Olympic rosters, the experience will be invaluable as they return to the NHL for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

Macklin Celebrini's teammates hope he's not disappointed

One such player is Canadian star Macklin Celebrini, who was incredible at the 2026 Olympic Games as he posted 5 goals, 10 points and a +6 differential in just six games, primarily playing with Connor McDavid.
While playing with the best player in the NHL certainly has its upsides, it's also got the downside, with his San Jose Sharks teammates Will Smith and Vincent DeSharnais now opening up on how disappointed he may be to not be on a line with 97 anymore.
Mack's gonna come back to us, he's gonna be f*cking disappointed. He's gonna pass to Desharnais and he's not Makar. He's gonna be disappointed as f*ck. - DeSharnais

'Yup, he's gonna see that I'm not McDavid.' - Smith
Celebrini obviously knew that he wasn't going to be playing with the same level of players upon his return, and for his teammates to come out and say it shows a level of vulnerability, but given what a great leader the 19-year old is, he'll no doubt be happy to be in San Jose again.
Ultimately, given what he's done since arriving in the NHL, Celebrini is already a star in the NHL and on the Olympic stage, and while he'll no doubt be excited for the 2030 Games, he's got plenty of work to do between now and then on a very good, rising Sharks team.
