The National Hockey League has launched an investigation into the Nashville Predators for their reported plans after general manager Barry Trotz stepped down.
The Nashville Predators are now searching for a new general manager after Barry Trotz, who had been in place since 2023, announced his retirement.
But they could be in some trouble with the NHL, as it was announced that there is now an investigation underway into their hiring of the CAA Sports Agency to conduct their new GM search because of a potential conflict of interest.
Per a report from NHL analyst Frank Seravalli:
News: The NHLPA is reviewing preds hiring of CAA Sports to conduct GM search for potential conflict of interest violation of the certified agent regulations.
Regulations stipulate that any agency which represents NHL players may not also have a role in front office or coaching personnel hiring processes - even if it is being conducted by a different arm of the agency. - Frank Seravalli

A follow up from NHL analyst Andy Strickland:
The NHLPA agent certification rules are clear that agencies may not conduct business with NHL ownerships or front office personnel in any capacity. Following the news of Nashville retaining CAA to conduct the search for the next management team, I’m told the situation is being reviewed by the players association. - Andy Strickland
Barry Trotz Has Announced His Retirement
Barry Trotz, who was the first coach in Predators history and would later coach the Washington Capitals to a Stanley Cup in 2018, later coached the New York Islanders before eventually returning to the Predators as GM in 2023.
He said he has a desire to spend more time at home:
I've been in pro sports in some shape or form probably for 40 years now, and there comes a time when you realize that a lot of the stuff you've done and you've been immersed, you can't be sometimes present in both places. You can't be present in your job and you can't be present at home. I just felt there's an end date. - Barry Trotz
Trotz will stay on with the Predators as an advisor through the end of the season.
