The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen has undergone surgery and is expected to miss up to 6 months in recovery.
The work has begun for the Philadelphia Flyers, who failed to earn a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and underwent a major change in leadership behind the bench late in the year.
But as they begin laying the groundwork for next year, they'll be short a key member of their blue line for the entire summer, along with all of Training Camp in the fall.
The Flyers announced that defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen underwent surgery on his right tricep nearly a month ago on March 26; his recovery time is set to be approximately 6 months.
Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen underwent successful surgery on his right triceps tendon rupture on March 26. The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles, CA.
He is expected to miss 2025 training camp and be out about 6 months. He is expected to make a full recovery.
This could be a worrying absence for Flyers fans, as Ristolainen previously had his tricep surgically repaired last year; he missed 3 months but was able to participate in Training Camp.
For us, there's no rush to trade him. We finally have him healthy. We finally have him playing extremely well. To find a right-shot defenseman like that; to play in your top four, to play as physical as he does, they're tough to find. We have him here for us. We get excited thinking about trading him and what kind of return we could get, but I'm not shopping him. I'm not trying to get rid of him.
Ristolainen had 19 points (4G, 15A) in 63 games this year.
