The Flyers are 0-5-2 after a seventh straight loss, and Philadelphia fans let them hear it. Here is how the season unraveled so fast.
The boos rained down in Philadelphia on Sunday night, and it's hard to say the fans are wrong.
The Flyers lost 4-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes at home, their seventh straight defeat to open the season.
They are now 0-5-2 and still searching for any kind of spark.
This is a team that made the playoffs last season, and Carolina is the same club that had them on the ropes in that series last spring.
Sunday felt like a bad rerun for the home crowd.
The offense has vanished
Eight goals in seven games. That's the number that jumps off the page.
The Flyers opened the year with a 7-0 home loss to Pittsburgh, then scored twice in each of their next two games against New Jersey and Carolina.
Since then it has been one goal a night against Tampa Bay, Ottawa, Boston and Carolina again.
Three of the seven losses came by a single goal, which makes the drought sting even more.
The defense hasn't been much better.
Philadelphia has given up 28 goals in that same stretch, a minus-20 goal differential through seven games.
It's tough to win anything with numbers like that.
What comes next
The schedule doesn't offer much time to breathe.
The Flyers host the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday night, then head to Detroit on Thursday to face the Red Wings.
After that, it's back home Saturday against Ottawa.
Early season losing streaks don't doom a year, but each one digs the hole a little deeper.
A team that can't score has no margin for error, and patience in this city runs out fast.
The next few games will say plenty about whether this group can turn things around.
