The Flyers were booed off the ice Wednesday night after the Penguins routed them 7-0 in the season opener, with Dan Vladar left out to dry in goal.
The Flyers opened the 2026-27 season with a packed house and got humbled in a hurry.
Pittsburgh handed them a 7-0 loss Wednesday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena, and the home crowd let the team hear about it as the Flyers skated off.
Evgeni Malkin, Hendrix Lapierre and Filip Hallander all scored in a second period that flipped the game upside down.
The Penguins rattled off three goals in 4:40, and the boos got loudest once it was 5-0 with plenty of hockey left.
Vladar left out to dry
Dan Vladar took the brunt of it.
Pittsburgh scored five times on its first 18 shots against him, and that came after a preseason where he hadn't played a full period while dealing with an unspecified injury.
With the Flyers in the first game of a back-to-back, he stayed in net and took the beating.
One of Nick Robertson's two goals went in off the back of Vladar's skate to make it 6-0.
Arturs Silovs made 19 saves for his third career shutout as the Penguins outshot Philadelphia 38-19.
Ville Koivunen and Egor Chinakhov also scored, and Sidney Crosby chipped in an assist.
A rough way to start
It stings more given how last season ended.
The Flyers knocked out these same Penguins on a Cam York overtime winner in Game 6, then got a standing ovation in this building less than five months ago when their run ended in the second round.
Rick Tocchet's group is now 0-2 in season openers since he took over, and Pittsburgh heads home to host the Canadiens next.
The Flyers have a lot to clean up, and fast.
