Patrick Roy is available again, and an old Andlauer quote is making the rounds.
But the market already answered the question.
When Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer said he slightly regretted not hiring Roy, it sounded like a live lead.
It was recorded in January 2024, on Gatineau's 104.7 FM, about a coaching search that ended two years ago.
Andlauer praised Roy back then as a champion who knows how to win, and the words still flatter their subject.
"I really like Patrick, he's a true champion and he knows how to win.
"I slightly regret not having hired him."

They just describe a very different Ottawa than the one that exists today.
The opening Ottawa keeps pretending it has
Travis Green is not going anywhere. He guided the Senators to the playoffs this spring and finished sixth in Jack Adams Award voting for 2026.
His contract runs through 2027-28, and Ottawa has made the postseason in both of his seasons.
There is no vacancy for Roy to fill, only a quote from a franchise that was mid-collapse when it was spoken.
Roy already lost this summer's real audition
The genuine test of Roy's market came in June, not on old radio tape. The Toronto Maple Leafs interviewed him, then hired Jim Hiller on June 17.
Peter Laviolette landed with the Los Angeles Kings, and the biggest chairs filled without Roy in any of them.
Three months on the market is the real verdict, and it is quieter than the nostalgia suggests.
None of that erases Roy's resume, four Stanley Cups and a Jack Adams Award still command respect.
It simply means the teams that actually had jobs this offseason looked and chose other names.
So the Andlauer clip is not fresh momentum toward Ottawa. It is a reminder that admiration voiced in 2024 does not survive a 2026 hiring cycle that already looked at Roy and passed him by.
